“They’re gifts from the heart--and more special than any. / This day’s not for counting how much or how many.” -Paul Laud
The golden lining of Christmas are the little things we can do for each other, the appreciation for what we have, what comes from the heart. That is the underlying message in Vermont author, Paul Laud’s story, The House that Santa Almost Missed.
Written and illustrated by Laud, in loose rhyming couplets, the heartening tale is about two pets who are determined to save Christmas. The adorable dog and loving cat set out in an onslaught of Vermont’s snowy drifts after they realize Santa must have missed their house. The poetic story carries the reader through their journey to make Christmas what they believe is the best it can be for their family, filled with presents.
The illustrations are beautiful and crisp and depict the winter wonderland of Vermont. The detail within each image makes the story visually come to life making it a great book for all ages.
